| Special Testimony |
|
From Lindsey K, age 20, Lansing, Michigan Over the years I have written several testimonies for A Life of Faith, many of which have been previously used or published, but today I wanted to share just how much your ministry continues to impact my life. I am twenty years old and I am getting married in seven days. I have been reading the Life of Faith books since I was thirteen years old. At that time, Elsie was the only character in the series and reading about her endless wait and how hard it was to live with a father who didn't know the Lord made her instantly my best friend, especially since my parents had been divorced for years and right at that time my own father thought I was part of a cult because I was a Christian. As she matured her struggles still touched every part of my life, even when she soon grew up and I was still a girl. Then I met Millie. Millie loved adventure, and while I loved Elsie, I loved my new adventurous friend even more. As she went into the mission field I explored where God was leading me in the ministry and went on several mission trips myself. I became very involved with youth group, church committees, and community outreach events. Millie helped me learn to bite my tongue when necessary and speak the truth in love when holding back was impossible to do. She had a passion for her cause and I wanted to be just like her. Of course, Violet had to come on the scene. Vi is by far my favorite. Not only did she lose her father at 14 (I lost my "daddy"--my stepdad at thirteen as well), but she was a combination of Millie and Elsie that fit me perfectly. She's artistic and spunky, but she's quiet and needs to think before she acts. We even look alike with our brown hair and dimples (and glasses upon occasion). She has dedicated her life to serving the Lord and so have I and we both fell in love with the least likely men possible. It happened in such a way that it could only come from God, and our lives will never be the same again. While Vi is truly my favorite, Laylie will always have a special place in my heart. I helped proofread the manuscript and I fell in love with her as I read about her courage, spirit, and strength. I have yet to meet Kathleen but I know she will be just as influential as the rest in my life and that brings me to the heart of my testimony. I am a week away from the biggest even of my life, and do you know who I turn to for advice on almost a daily basis? It's my dear friends Elsie, Millie, and Violet. I am twenty years old, yet their lives of faith continue to influence me every day of my life. I read about Elsie making sure she has her time with the Lord, and the joy of walking down the aisle to Edward, and I can feel my heart rejoice at doing the same in just a few days. I think about how patient Millie was in waiting for Charles and how she never lost sight of God's plan through it all. I see Vi running to the end of the drive to throw her arms around the professor or stealing a kiss in front of all of Christiana and I am reminded the I should be passionate for my husband no matter who is watching. My wedding itself has been touched by the wonderful ministry of A Life of Faith, with butterflies gracing the decorations and my maid of honor being one of my pen pals through the original girls' club. My life would not be what it is this day if it hadn't been for the work, the love, and the commitment of all those who are a part of A Life of Faith and Mission City Press. I will NEVER stop recommending these books to anyone I meet because they will change your life. God is good and he has used this wonderful ministry to pour out His blessings on me for over seven years. I can only pray that I will do as much in others' lives as they have done in mine. With much love in Christ, Lindsey K, age 20 |
